Description

Our Smart Challenge competition course invites young innovators to participate in the exciting HKRC Smart Challenge 2026, where they'll use LEGO Spike Essential and Spike Prime to design and build a smart robot. This project aims to teach participants the intricacies of constructing a functional robot while mastering the programming required to perform various tasks during the competition. With tools like the iPad and block-based coding, students of different skill levels can engage meaningfully; juniors will focus on programming emotional responses, while seniors will learn to download programs directly to the robot hub.

Over the course of three lessons, students will dive deep into the challenge. They will be introduced to the HKRC Smart Challenge through videos and slides outlining the rules and scoring system. Following this, they will brainstorm and present their robot designs, culminating in a group voting session to select the best design before building their robot using preset parts like wheels and claws.

Participants will learn how to program their robots effectively for the challenge, with practical trials to see their designs in action. They will also focus on refining and debugging their robots, allowing students to gain hands-on experience controlling their creations on a competition map, enhancing their problem-solving and critical thinking skills. The program wraps up with final testing, where students will document their efforts by creating a video for the challenge. This immersive course offers a fantastic opportunity for young learners to cultivate their creativity, technical skills, and competitive spirit, gearing them up for an unforgettable experience in the realm of robotics.
